Workers to hold rally, mark world's labor day
The Jakarta Post , Jakarta | Thu, 12/18/2008 8:45 AM | National
Around 1,000 workers will stage a massive rally at Hotel Indonesia circle in Central Jakarta on Thursday to commemorate world's labor day that falls on Dec.18.

During the rally, they will perform a traditional dance from Ponorogo of East Java and a theatrical action telling on migrant workers' conditions and poor government services to them.

Wahyu Susilo, an analyst from NGO-based Migrant Care told tempointeraktif.com on Thursday that today's protest was motivated by possible layoffs following global economic downturn.

"In the demonstration, we will present corpses parade to depict on numbers of workers died of physical abuses," he said.
He said that the labors would demand the government to ratify the United Nations on migrant workers protection. (ewd)
