Dear Fe and Cory,
Greetings from the MFA Secretariat!
Recently, we received an invitation from the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) to a seminar entitled "The Effects of Parents' Migration on the Rights of Children Left Behind" which will be held on 21 February 2008 from 9am to 12nn at the C.P. Romulo Hall, 106 Amorsolo St., NEDA-Makati Building, Legaspi Village, Makati City.
The seminar is coorganized by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and is the third of a series of seminars under the theme "Public Policies and the Rights of the Children." The series aim to focus on policy analysis, advocacy and partnership for children's rights as areas where key action at the national, regional, local and community levels is required to advance the realization of the rights of the children.
This third seminar will have Ms. Rosemarie Edillon, Vice-President and Executive Director at the Asian-Pacific Policy Center as main presenter who will talk about the prevailing conditions of children left behind by parents working overseas. The study aims to determine the reconfigured role and lines and responsibilities of parents who go overseas and their consequential effects on children's rights. Some recommendations to mitigate possible undesirable effects of migration on children will be provided toward the end of the presentation.
In this regard, we would like to invite you to attend the seminar and join in the discussions after the presentation. Your participation will definitely be valued in this seminar.
I will send to your office by fax the program schedule. I will also be inviting other MFA members in the Philippines to attend the seminar.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Mabs
