Among the fundamental measures of the level of development of a society is its life expectancy at birth, that is the average number of years a newborn will expect to live if subjected to the prevailing age-specific death rates at the time of his birth
In the Philippines, life expectancy at birth of female is 72 years compared to 67 years for male. In Japan which has the highest expectancy at birth, the figures are 85.6 for females and 78.7 for males.
