Greetings from Manila! Hope all is well with all of you.
This is to inform you of several key events in ASEAN in the next two weeks which we shall try to engage.
On April 10-12, the ASEAN Plus 3 Summit, East Asia Summit and the ASEAN-UN Summit will be taking place in Pattaya, Thailand to discuss solutions for the global financial crisis and the economic downturn.
On April 12, the ASEAN Secretariat together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Royal Thai Government is also organizing an ASEAN Global Dialogue where they have invited leaders of key international organizations to share their views and strategies.
MFA, along with other select civil society organizations, is invited to attend this Dialogue and we shall endeavor to share our position on the global crisis as articulated in the SAPA Working Group on Migration and Labor Joint Position Paper and in our own MFA statement issued last January (see website)
Please find attached the SAPA statement and disseminate as widely as possible.
Jubilee South – Asia Pacific Movement on Debt and Development is also co-organizing an “Asian Conference on the International Financial Crisis: Analysis, Alternatives, Action” on April 14-17 in Malaysia and we have committed to share on the impact of the crisis on migrant workers in Asia.
