TUGUEGARAO CITY, June 6 (PIA) -- Majority of the media practitioners here are supporting the passage of the controversial Reproductive Health Bill (RH Bill) in a survey initiated by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) region 2.
Out of 18 media respondents, 14 or 77.7 per cent expressed their full support to the passage of the bill, only one or 5.55 per cent opposed while the other three of 16.67 per cent are still undecided.
Edmund Pancha and Cadel Trilles, radio reporters, anchormen, and board of directors of the Informers club (i-Club), believe that RH Bill will resolve the problem of overpopulation in the Philippines.
Melanie Perez, a radio reporter and anchorwoman supports the bill; however, she wishes that it should be open for debate to clarify the provisions on the use of contraception.
“I have questions on the use of contraception but the maternal and child health provision is really very important. I think a debate would be a big help to let the public know the real content of the controversial bill, especially so that the debate in the congress is mostly centered on the methods of contraception,” she stated.
Mary-ann Sagabaen, a radio reporter and anchorwoman, also said the RH bill will protect thousands of women to know their rights.
“I support the passage of the bill to curb the rising population and to prevent sexually transmitted diseases.” Sagabaen said.
Others simply responded that they want to give the bill chance to educate the public on reproductive health issues. Many of the respondents believe that the bill will solve the problem of over population and poverty.
The respondents who are members of the informers club (i-Club) are set to sign a statement of support on RH Bill to be presented during the multi-sectoral forum on RH Bill in Santiago, Isabela on June 16, 2011, which will be sponsored by the Regional Population Executive Board (RPEB) region 2.
