While the Philippine government has lowered the alert level for Filipinos in Bahrain, the Philippine Embassy there still does not allow non-essential travel.

The Philippine Embassy in Bahrain issued this reminder to Filipinos after the Philippine Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) lifted a deployment ban to Bahrain on overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

“Be advised that under Alert Level 1, non-essential travel of Filipinos (tourism and visit purposes) to Bahrain is still not allowed," Consul General Sahid Glang said in Advisory Letter No. 24, posted on the embassy website.

In Advisory No. 1, the DOLE cited the Bahrain government's lifting of the state of national security.

The Bahrain government's move prompted the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to lower the alert level in Bahrain from “2" to “1."

The DOLE said the processing and deployment of overseas Filipino workers to Bahrain “is now allowed for both new hires and returning workers/vacationing workers or balik-manggagawa." - VVP, GMA News
