A new study conducted by two recruitment firms ranked Denmark as the most promising country when it comes to salary hikes this year while Philippines is one of the lowest ranked.

The study was conducted by recruitment platform MyHiringClub.com and NriJobPortal.com, a report of Emirates 24/7 said on Tuesday.

Top 10

The study named the top 10 countries based on possible salary increases for people within their borders:
(1) Denmark (16.49%
(2) Ireland (16.27%)
(3) United Kingdom (16.02%)
(4) Switzerland (15.76%)
(5) Belgium (15.57%)
(6) Germany (15.45%)
(7) Australia (14.79%)
(Cool United States (14.21%)
(9) Hong Kong (14.19%)
(10) India (14.03%)

Lowest 10

On the other hand, the 10 lowest countries with a bleak outlook for salary increases this year are:
(1) Bulgaria (4.03%)
(2) Vietnam (4.13%)
(3) Philippines (4.21%)
(4) Thailand (5.16%)
(5) Malaysia (5.67%)
(6) Indonesia (5.91%)
(7) Portugal (6.19%)
(Cool Austria (6.21%)
(9) Norway (6.37%)
(10) Bahrain (6.86%)

Gulf countries

When it comes to Gulf countries, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) topped the list of countries expected to hike salaries this year:
(1) UAE (8.02%)
(2) Saudi Arabia (7.43%)
(3) Kuwait (7.30%)
(4) Qatar (7.12%)
(5) Bahrain (6.86%)

Despite its subdued economy, the United States (US) — the country with the highest number of overseas Filipinos at 2,877,666 as of 2009, based on data from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) — is still one of the top 10 countries with a good outlook for salary increases.

However, the US this year only ranks seventh, compared to second last year.

The Gulf News report quoted Rajesh Kumar, CEO, MyHiringClub.com. as saying, "Countries like Switzerland, Ireland, Australia, Hong Kong are increasing their salary packages to attract and retain talented employees for minimising their higher attrition rate.”

India, a favorite destination for countries that are outsourcing their services, is ranked 9th among the 10 top countries with bright outlooks for wage hikes. - VVP, GMA News
