Pinoy baby thrown from 9th floor garbage chute in UAE in critical condition

The newborn baby thrown by his mother, a Filipina maid, from the garbage chute on the ninth floor of a building in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Monday remains in critical condition.

According to a report of the news site Gulf News, the baby boy remains in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Al Qasimi Hospital after miraculously surviving the fall at a building in Sharjah.

Dr. Arif Noryani said even though the baby's heart and lungs were not injured, he has a fractured skull and has internal bleeding.

The baby is also constantly being monitored because of his infections.

Still, doctors noted that the baby was lucky to have been wrapped in a piece of cloth and aluminum foil before being put in a plastic bag as these layers helped cushion his fall.

However, the doctors also said these layers reduced his supply of oxygen, causing him to develop neurological problems.

The initial police investigation showed that the incident took place between 4:00 and 5:00 a.m. on Monday, when the baby’s mother, a Filipina housemaid in her 30s, threw the baby down the garbage chute from the ninth floor.

A watchman on his morning rounds found the baby at around 6:00 a.m. and called the police.

The Filipina maid was found to have been recruited illegally by an Asian family who did not check her credentials and history when they employed her.

The maid has been arrested. - VVP, GMA New
