DOLE: 43k jobs up for grabs at Independence Day job fair in Luneta

At least 43,000 jobs will be up for grabs when the Department of Labor and Employment holds its "Kalayaan Job Fair" on Tuesday, Independence Day, at the Rizal Park in Manila.

DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the job fair aims to liberate Filipinos from poverty by providing them with job opportunities.

"On [that] day, the DOLE will be one with the whole nation in the celebration, but our main consideration is to free our workers from poverty through job facilitation, hence, this job fair," she said.

Baldoz said 143 companies will take part in the job fair, which is part of the 114th Independence Day celebration with the theme, “Kalayaan: Pananagutan ng Bayan para sa Tuwid na Daan.”

The 143 companies include 113 local employers offering some 33,000 local jobs; and 30 land- and sea-based licensed overseas recruitment agencies with 10,000 prospective jobs.

Most of the local job vacancies for professional and technical-vocational workers, and include such positions as:

Even the Philippine National Police (PNP), which will participate in the job fair, is offering 3,000 openings for additional personnel, the DOLE said.

“There will be jobs at the 2012 Kalayaan Job Fair for anyone willing to work. Many more employers are calling the DOLE-National Capital Region to express their interest to participate," said Baldoz.

What to bring

Baldoz advised job applicants to prepare documents for the job fair such as:

- photocopies of pertinent employment documents, such as resumes or bio-data
- transcript of records
- diplomas
- ID photos
- certificate/s from past employers for those previously employed
- NBI, police, barangay clearances
- identification cards.

The DOLE's agency-partners are also providing pre-employment documentation services to fresh graduates and new entrants to the labor force to facilitate their job application, including the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI); Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR); PhilHealth; Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost).

For its part, the Professional Regulations Commission will also provide advisory services to professionals, while workers can avail of the free legal and medical services courtesy of the DOLE family of agencies through the DOLE-Regional Coordinating Council in NCR.

Also, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will offer services such as skills demonstration on bar tending and free haircuts and massage. — LBG, GMA News
