MANILA, Philippines — The Filipino stewardess who was aboard an ill-fated Yemenia Airways flight that crashed Tuesday was a big fan of the late “King of Pop" Michael Jackson and had wanted to meet him in person.

A report on online news site Visayan Daily Star (www.visayandailystar.com) quoted relatives as saying Camille Lou Libron, 26, was grief-stricken when she learned Jackson died.

“She had been a fan of Michael Jackson since she was small. Although her death has been devastating to us, I try to comfort my self with the thought that, perhaps, now she has met up with her idol because that would have made her very happy," said her aunt, Teresita Oebanda, who teaches at the Calatrava Central School in Negros Occidental.

Camille was aboard the Yemenia Airways Flight 626 when it crashed in the Indian Ocean while en route to the Comoros Islands Tuesday.

Oebanda said that when Camille learned of Jackson’s death, she called her daughter and told her that her dream had died because she would not get to see her idol anymore.

Maritess Relota, Camille’s cousin, said she and Camille had hoped to see Jackson when he went to London for his much-awaited concert.

Camille’s mother Lucy Castillo Libron is a retired dean of commerce of the Colegio de Santa Rita in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

Her father Camilo is a ship captain who was set to come home at the end of the month. Her brother Carlo Ben is also a seaman and her other brother, Camilus, is a dentist based in Cavite.

Mrs. Libron said her daughter was supposed to come home on June 22 but it was delayed because she had to go to London to fix her passport.

She was rescheduled to fly home on July 5 and be in the Philippines on July 6.

Mrs. Libron was in Cavite for the birthday of Camilus, where the family was to gather, when she heard the news of her daughter’s death.

She said she last spoke to her daughter on Sunday and had no premonition of what was to come. - GMANews.TV
