Philcomdev, with support from the Asia-Pacific Philanthropy Consortium (APPC), will convene a National Conference on Filipino Diaspora Philanthropy on November 12-13, 2009 at the FERSAL Place Hotel, 131 Malakas St., Diliman Quezon City.
With the theme: “Partnering with the Overseas Filipinos for Sustainable Social Development and Change: Practices, Challenges and Ways Forward”, the conference will highlight contributions of migrants to social development and change; advocate for partnership-building as an empowering process for migrants, their families and their communities; and help arouse the consciousness of local migration and development stakeholders on the development potential of Filipino diaspora philanthropy. The crying need for relief and rehabilitation in the wake of the recent calamities our nation experienced adds an urgent dimension to the conference.
Specifically, the conference will bring together local migration and development stakeholders
• to discuss Filipino diaspora philanthropy – its characteristics, current and best practices, and challenges; and
• to craft a concrete action plan on linking with the overseas Filipinos (OFs) and partnering with them for sustainable development.
The main output of the conference will be a Plan of Action.
