Invitation “Dr. Alfredo J. Ganapin Advocacy Forum Series 2008”
Dear Mr. Nicodemus,
The interlinkages between migration and democratization have not yet been profoundly examined. In order to fill this gap, a research team from the “Arnold Bergstraesser Institute” in Freiburg, Germany, has conducted a research project entitled
“Democratization through Migration?”
Using the hypothesis that migration has the potential to alter or strengthen existing political attitudes, with the degree and direction of changes depending on migrants’ individual experiences and on the political system of the host country, 1,000 returned OFWs from various destinations were interviewed.
The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) and the Center for Migrant Advocacy would like to invite you to the
2nd Dr. Alfredo J. Ganapin Advocacy Forum Series of 2008
Balay Kalinaw, UP Campus, Quezon City
on 29 July, 9am to 12pm
The main researchers, Ms. Christl Kessler, PhD and Mr. Stefan Rother, M.A., will present the results of the study.
This research initiative is timely in connection with 2010 national elections as it will shed some light on possible effects the continuous export of labor may have on the voting behavior and political involvement of Filipinos overseas or returned OFWs.
Enclosed for your reference is the tentative programme. Please confirm your participation with the attached sheet. Thank you.
Sincerely yours,
ELLENE A. SANA
