This May, we are glad to have with us Marlene Fried and Anissa Helie who are Board Members of the Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights. Marlene and Anissa are feminists who have been working on sexual and reproductive health and rights issues.


Marlene is Professor at Hampshire College, Massachusetts and also is the Director of its Civil Liberties and Public Policy Program. Since the late 1970s, she has been a reproductive rights advocate, working on abortion access at the local, national and international levels. She was the founding president and continues to serve on the board of the National Network of Abortion Funds and the Abortion Rights Fund of Western Massachusetts. More recently Marlene has been working with women of color in the US for reproductive justice. Reproductive justice encompasses questions of abortion rights and choice but is able to move beyond the narrow and even contradictory parameters of these concepts.


Anissa is from Algeria and France. She was Coordinator of the international network, Women Living under Muslim Laws. She has a PhD in History and now teaches in the US. She has worked on issues of religious fundamentalism, women living in Muslim contexts, feminist history and LGBTI struggles.

We are taking the opportunity of their presence to have a sharing on the current global perspective on reproductive rights. We are anticipant that our discussion with them can lend a stimulating and fresh appreciation and insight into our own RH-RR advocacy in the Philippines.


The sharing will be on May 29, Thursday, 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm at Fernando Grand Hall, 5th Floor, Fersal Place Hotel, #131 Malakas St., Diliman, Quezon City. Please note that this invitation is personal and nontransferable.
